On February 27, Ingenuity students from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute had the opportunity to travel to University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) to participate in the M3 Math Modeling Competition, chaperoned by Ingenuity Lead Math Teacher, Elisa No.

This spring, The Ingenuity Project is piloting several units from the Issues and Science curriculum developed by Lab-Aids in our middle school programs this spring. This research-based curriculum engages students in exploring real-world scientific challenges, analyzing evidence, and applying scientific reasoning to complex issues.

The pilot will allow our teachers to evaluate how these units support student engagement and learning as we continue refining Ingenuity’s science curriculum for the future.

Ingenuity 10th graders in Honors Chemistry recently explored the science behind everyday beverages through a hands-on soda creation and tasting experiment designed to make chemistry both engaging and memorable. Students made their own beverage variety  and then investigated carbonation, acidity, and electrolyte content while comparing flavor profiles and sensory responses.

Activities like this help bring molecular science to life in a safe and interactive way. Through drink-based experiments—such as examining acid-base reactions, identifying flavor compounds, and exploring how carbonation forms—students gain a deeper understanding of pH, chemical reactions, and sensory science while building curiosity about the chemistry that shapes the foods and beverages they enjoy every day.

Kahlil Thomas, Ingenuity Poly class of 2027 and Mount Royal alum, was selected to participate in the CIAA Teens in Tech Panel on Friday, February 27 at the Colwell Center. Kahlil was among a group of high school and college emerging leaders studying or conducting promising work in technology. Students from across Baltimore City were in attendance to learn from this exciting panel.
